Eine zentrale Komponente ist die Business Impact Analyse, bei der kritische Prozesse identifiziert werden. Hierbei wird der maximale Zeitraum festgelegt, den ein Unternehmen ohne gravierende Folgen aushalten kann, bekannt als RTO. Ebenso bestimmt die RPO den maximal zulässigen Datenverlust in der Wiederherstellungsphase. Für eine effektive cyber security weiterbildung ist es wichtig, diese Kennzahlen regelmäßig zu prüfen und anzupassen. Die konkrete Definition dieser Parameter basiert auf den individuellen Risiken eines Unternehmens sowie auf branchenspezifischen Vorgaben; detaillierte Hinweise finden sich in der Norm selbst und im BSI TR-02102 Standard, der die Umsetzung der ISO 22301 in Deutschland regelt.
